Ready Funeral Home Cherry Street Location

Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. is a family owned business founded by George W. Ready in 1912. The original Ready Funeral home was located on Cherry Street in Burlington where the Ready family lived upstairs, which was quite common in those days.

When “Urban Renewal” swept through Burlington in the 60’s, the Ready’s were forced to relocate so that what is now the Cherry Street garage could be built. At the time, George was close to retiring and his son Bill was running the business alongside his father. Bill found the house on Shelburne Road and despite many warnings that the location would be too far outside the city, decided to buy the building and expand to serve families. Little did everyone know that Shelburne Road would become such a busy corridor and that development would continue much further to the South.

In 1974, the location on North Avenue was purchased to serve families on the North side of Burlington. This location served many families over the years but was closed in late 2011 since many families were using the Shelburne Road location instead.

George W. Ready

Soon after the Shelburne Road location was opened, George retired and Bill took over the business from his father. George passed away in 1988.

In the late 1990’s, the Mountain View location was acquired so that that the Ready family could serve the families in the Essex area communities where many of our staff were born and raised and still reside. This beautiful hillside location features a very comfortable, homelike setting and plenty of parking.

William J. Ready

In 2000, when Bill Ready died unexpectedly, it was a great loss to the community. Stories of Bill can be heard being told most nights during visiting hours. He had a big heart and still lives on in the hearts of many today.

In 2007, Adirondack Burlington Cremation Services, a division of the Ready family built a new state of the art facility at its location in South Burlington. The crematory had been operating at this location since 1982 but had outgrown the existing facility.

In 2011, John Ambrosino and Michele Ready Ambrosino, Bill’s daughter and George’s granddaughter purchased the business from Jane Ready. Today, Michele and John continue the legacy that George and Bill began many years ago of serving families in the community in which they live and work.

In January 2023, Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home became part of the Ready Family when Carol Pritchard decided to retire after serving the community for more than 50 years.   We are honored in the faith that has been placed in us to serve the Boucher and Pritchard families with compassion and dignity.  Rest assured that Carol and Sumner "Shimmy" Cohen (Vermont's only Jewish licensed funeral director) will still have a presence but will have some much deserved time off.
